just found out that people are boycotting this movie because the author is straight…….honestly if y’all let this movie flop i’m coming for everyone’s throats! no mercy! this is such a fake woke agenda! love, simon doesn’t deserve this! if y’all wanted to boycott an lgbt movie call me by your name was right there but y’all let that bitch prosper!
it literally says in the back of the book that she is a clinical psychologist AND has led a support group for GNC children… clearly she’s had first-hand experience with the LGBT+ community. It’s a good book and she portrayed the experiences of a gay teen pretty accurately and respectfully. don’t boycott the movie for such a stupid reason.
Actually! I’ve met the author. She was VERY vocal about how she consulted multiple gay male friends to make absolutely sure she was representing Simon in the best way possible. She said she was very careful and hyper aware that this was not a community she was part of, and she needed to do her duty to make sure it was handled in the most realistic way she possibly could.
She’s also a sweetheart, very funny, and loves Simon so, so much. So instead of boycotting someone for dumb reasons, do some research and praise her for doing the absolute best she could.
