Steve Yockey doesn’t get everything right – in fact, he got A LOT wrong in this episode – but what I love about him is that you can tell he’s really trying. Trying to tell a story, trying do something with these characters. He manages to evoke real emotions again and again because he doesn’t stick to simple paint by numbers writing like most of his colleagues. And the fact that he reserved this highly moving scene for two recurring female characters on a show where scenes like that are pretty much the exclusive property of the recurring male cast makes it even better. More of this, please!
