“skip dinner and become thinner” more like “skip dinner and you have an eating disorder please get help”

“a moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips” more like “a moment on the lips is okay to have, please take care of yourself in this lifetime”

“every time you eat you delay becoming skinnier” more like “every time you eat you give your body the nutrients it needs in order to survive, please keep surviving”

“you’ll be able to wear whatever you want when you get to your ugw” more like “you’ll be able to wear whatever you want now because fashion =/= weight”

“Don’t reward yourself with food your not a dog” more like treat yourself because you’re amazing and deserve happiness

This is actually really helpful thanks

I love this post for how it politely demolishes destructive pro ana/mia mantras i love it

“if you can pinch an inch” congrats you have skin and flesh like all humans

hows this for a hot take…..depression humour isnt actually that funny

its incredibly boring and annoying to hang out with ppl who do nothing but say how much they hate themselves. grow past it

ur life will get better bc ppl will actually enjoy ur company and u wont be making them uncomfortable anymore

im not saying this to sound superior either bc i have Been That Person but ever since i. stopped doing it i have much healthier and more enjoyable interactions

i know its hard to drag urself out of that mentality but its not ~~~neurotypical, karen uwu~~~ or whatever to do what u can to help urself live more positively

i hope u dont mind me adding on to this post but like

the recovery mindset is hard as fuck and no one is saying its easy but like. if all u do is sit around and be miserable and make things harder for urself of course u arent gonna get better. i know depression jokes might help in the moment but it wont do jack shit for you in the long term.

do you really wanna get better? because it takes work. not that just surviving and functioning w depression but ur mental illness isnt gonna go away by itself hun.

Quick reminder, especially for you younger undergrads: Discipline is a skill, not a character trait. And just like any skill, it can be practiced and improved upon incrementally. Try not to get discouraged if you have a day, or multiple days, where you are less disciplined than you would like or need to be. Don’t quit. Don’t spend the next week binging Netflix because you think it’s a hopeless endeavour. Just get up the next day and try again. Each day you try is more practice, and each day you practice, you’ll get a little bit better, and that continual improvement will pay dividends in the long run.

Keep at it.

apply for jobs you’re not qualified for! audit upper-level classes! get drunk with your TAs! see that poster advertising that lecture series? go there take notes and ask questions! thank the presenter for talking about this topic you love! if the class is full before you register, email the professor and ask if they can squeeze you in! RAISE YOUR HAND! tell the disability accomodation office to do their goddamn job! ask for help! file complaints! go to class in your pajamas and destroy the reading! you got this! you KNOW you got this! be arrogant enough to learn EVERYTHING! take your meds! punch a velociraptor in the dick! fear is useless and temporary! glory is forever! shed your skin and erupt angel wings! help out! spread your sun!

i had a really good morning! you deserve a really good morning! kill anyone who says you don’t and build a throne from their bones!

Oddly inspiring

“Fear is useless and temporary.”

Holy shit.

hey. hey. stop scrolling for a sec.

breathe. you’ve made it so far this year. you’ve gotten through so many things that you thought you wouldn’t, and you’ll continue to get though this, whatever it is. i know you can. i believe in you, and i’m so, so proud of you. i know it probably seems impossible, but it’s going to be ok. it’s going to be ok.

breathe in, breath out. and just keep breathing. we’re gonna get there.

My therapist told me something meaningful yesterday, she said “It’s important to remember that when you’re depressed you have to nurse yourself and be extra gentile towards yourself. Just like an athlete wouldn’t break an ankle then force themselves to run that ankle. They rest as it heals and do not think “I am a failed athelete” they think, “right now something isn’t working so i’ll take care of myself until it does.“

Just like a broken bone, depression can change the way your daily life plays out, and pushing yourself too hard and getting frustrated when you don’t feel better is just like trying to run on that broken ankle and getting frustrated when it doesn’t heal.

Read this. Then read it again. And then save it and read it over and over when you are depressed.
