You know, Virgil probably only had trouble identifying with any of the Hogwarts houses because he was given all their positive qualities to go by.

Like, if Thomas hadn’t corrected them and Slytherin had been left as just the “dark and sinister” house, Virgil probably would have agreed with that placement. But for each house he was given a list of all the good qualities, and that was when he would start self-deprecating and distancing himself from it. He still doesn’t see himself in a positive light. So it’s probably hard for him to identify with any of the houses when the others make them sound so good and he still feels… not.
