I don’t think neurotypicals understand how painful it is for some people with a neurodivergency like ADHD and Autism to be bored
I don’t know that I’d even characterize it as boredom. What it comes down to is that, without some kind of regulating stimulus, our brains deregulate. Sometimes that can be relatively painless, but sometimes it means anxiety-like symptoms, or dissociation, or over-reaction to non-regulating stimuli in a way which can lead to meltdown. Calling it mere “boredom” is honestly a misrepresentation. I think of it more as a deregulation spiral, because that lack of stimulus can feed back on itself and make things worse and worse the longer it continues.
(Based on my own experience living with autism and ADHD. YMMV.)
